INTRODUCTION

Mbonani Resources is a diverse company with its main focus in the provision of transport services and aspires to be among the industry leaders in setting the benchmark for reliability, efficient turnaround time, and exceptional service to our clients. In doing so, we adhere to international best practices and principles.

Mbonani Resources recognise that modern day slavery is a complex issue and is therefore committed to working with our clients, suppliers, and employees to ensure the highest levels of ethics and good governance practices, including actively preventing human trafficking and modern day slavery from within our own business and our supply chain processes.

The nature of our business which forms part of the value chain of transport services that transcend across international territories requires us to be vigilant and actively committed to the global culture of responsibility and combating of unethical practices.
We hold ourselves and our supply chain processes accountable for complying with the provisions of the Human Trafficking Act No. 7 of 2013, Basic Conditions of Employment Act No. 75 of 1997 and the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 in addition to applicable and interrelated international laws and practices.
The offence of modern day slavery comprises slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking, and Mbonani Resources has a zero tolerance approach to Modern day slavery of any kind including child labour within our operations and supply chain processes.
Mbonani Resources prohibits these practices and is committed to conducting its business in an ethical manner, affording its people respect and promoting their self- worth.

CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS

Mbonani Resources will not support or deal with any business knowingly involved in slavery, child labour or human trafficking. Our supplier and client base is reviewed regularly by senior management and any risks of modern day slavery and child labour assessed. Should any client, supplier and contractor be deemed to be at risk, they will be required to confirm that they comply with the principles and requirements of the human rights legislation, as well as their commitment to ethical trading and management.

DUE DILIGENCE

As part of our efforts to monitor and reduce the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring within our supply chains, we may conduct due diligence when considering engaging new clients and or suppliers, and regularly review our existing clients and suppliers by:

-Confirmation: the number of responsible managers who have confirmed their understanding and the procedures in place with their plant, facility or operation to identify and guard against slavery and human trafficking within our business;

-Vetting and screening: the number of suppliers who have engaged with us and provided reasonable assurances to us of their commitment to combatting slavery and human trafficking in their business or supply chains;

-Whistleblowing: a confidential whistleblowing platform accessible to all employees to whom it is lawful to provide access which employees may use to report any allegations or suspicions of wrongdoing within the Group, including slavery or human trafficking which will be fully investigated.

-Annually review the policy and its application on anti slavery, child labour and human trafficking;

-Ad-hoc and random audits and inspection to be carried out by the Group Director;

-Performing periodic internal supplier audits or assessments through our own staff or a third party, which may have a greater degree of focus on slavery and human trafficking where these types of risks are identified; and

-Demanding corrective measures in the event that the company becomes aware of any actions or conditions not in compliance with our client and or supplier Code of Conduct. We also may terminate an agreement with any client and or supplier who does not comply with our supplier Code of Conduct or the contractual provisions governing compliance with laws and the provisions set forth in our Code of Conduct.
Our procedures are designed to:

-Establish and assess areas of potential risk in our business and supply chains
-Monitor potential risk areas in our business and supply chains
-Reduce the risk of slavery, child labour and human trafficking occurring in our business and supply chains
-Provide adequate protection for whistle-blowers.

We ensure that all of our clients and suppliers adhere to our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy. We enforce a strict code of compliance and do not tolerate slavery and human trafficking within our supply chains.

TRAINING

We invest in educating our staff to recognise the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. Through our training programmes, employees are encouraged to identify and report any potential breaches of our anti-slavery and human trafficking policy. Employees are taught the benefits of stringent measures to tackle slavery and human trafficking, as well as the consequences of failing to eradicate slavery, child labour and human trafficking from our business and supply chains.

CODE OF CONDUCT

All employees are expected to act with professionalism, integrity and ethically at all levels. In turn Mbonani Resources expects our partners, suppliers and agents to behave in the same manner, ensuring no slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, or child labour or human trafficking takes place within their business or their own supply chain, including adults and children being forced to work against their free will.
Any contravention of the code of conduct and the policy on anti slavery, child labour and human trafficking by any employee will result in disciplinary action being taken against such employee.

OUR COMMITMENT

Mbonani Resources recognises that it has a responsibility to take a robust pro-active approach to modern slavery and human trafficking.
This policy and our performance in relation to ethical standards, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour will be reviewed annually.
We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery, child labour or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business.
All our clients, suppliers and agents are required to indicate their policy and approach to modern slavery and human trafficking and to detail what policies and procedures they have in place to ensure that they, and in turn, their supply chains are able to demonstrate compliance with the applicable statutory prescripts.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Key personnel within the business are provided with relevant knowledge to fulfil our obligations and employees are encouraged to disclose any concerns that they may have about slavery and/or human trafficking in our organisation or our supply chains.
Mbonani Resources ensures and is committed to not employing young people under the legal employment age anywhere in our business operations, and application of the highest standards of integrity to the recruitment and management of staff in our group of companies.

RESPONSIBILITY

Mbonani Resources undertakes to:
Implement policies and to action, train and review these policies regularly.
Investigate and conduct due diligence in relation to known or suspected instances of slavery, child labour and human trafficking within the business, clients, suppliers and agents.
If any of our employees have concerns, they are expected to report them to Senior Management and they in turn are expected to act upon them.

LEADERSHIP

The Group Director and Senior Management of Mbonani group of companies take the responsibility for implementing this policy statement and its objectives and shall provide adequate resources and learning to all staff and employees to ensure that slavery, child labour, unethical conduct and human trafficking is prevented within the organisation and its supply chains.
